A teapot can hold tea. This one also holds a poem, a bamboo grove, and the quiet of a forest at dusk.
Carved with Wang Wei’s “Bamboo Grove Pavilion”
The body of this teapot is inscribed with Wang Wei’s “Bamboo Grove Pavilion” (竹里馆) — one of the most serene poems in Chinese literature:
独坐幽篁里,弹琴复长啸。
Sitting alone in the bamboo grove, playing the lute and whistling long.

深林人不知,明月来相照。
Deep in the forest, no one knows I am here — only the bright moon comes to shine on me.

The characters are carved by hand into the clay before firing. Around them, bamboo is carved in relief — stems, nodes, and leaves rising from the surface, catching the glaze where it thins. It is a scene of solitude, not loneliness: a person, a grove, and the moon.
Wood-Fired Jianzhan Glaze
The teapot is finished in a wood-fired Jianzhan glaze (chai shao) — a warm amber-brown that shifts between honey, bronze, and deep olive depending on the light. Wood firing leaves its mark in subtle ways: faint ash effects, slight variations in tone, and a surface that feels soft and oil-smooth in the hand.
The interior is glazed in a clean, pale white, so you can see the color of the tea as it brews. A built-in multi-hole ceramic filter sits behind the spout, allowing you to brew loose tea directly in the pot.
The Lifting-Handle Form
This is a tilian hu (提梁壶) — a lifting-handle teapot, with an arched handle that rises above the lid. The form has a long history in Chinese tea culture and is prized for its balance: the high handle lets you pour with a steady, controlled motion, while the round body holds heat evenly.
The lid is topped with a bud-shaped finial, and the underside of the base carries the artist’s seal — “Ran Ye” (然野) — stamped into the clay.
Made by Hand
Each teapot is thrown, carved, glazed, and fired by hand. The carved calligraphy, the bamboo relief, the wood-fired glaze, and the subtle variations in tone and texture are all natural results of the process. No two teapots are identical.

Why It Belongs on Your Tea Table
This is not a factory teapot with a printed poem. It is a hand-carved, wood-fired piece — a poem, a bamboo grove, and a glaze shaped by flame. It brings the stillness of Wang Wei’s forest to your tea table.
Each piece is unique. Once it is sold, it will not find the same cup, only a similar one.
