Incense does not need to be seen. It needs a place to rise from.
This is that place.

Carved Water Ripples, Cut by Hand

The body of this incense burner is covered in hand-carved water ripples (shui bo wen) — flowing, wave-like lines that wrap around the vessel and rise across the domed lid. The carving is done before firing, then softened by the glaze as it flows over the surface. Raised lines catch the light; recessed areas hold shadow.
The lid is pierced with openwork, so incense smoke can drift out in thin, slow streams. The pattern is not a simple cutout — it follows the same wave motif as the body, so the smoke appears to rise through moving water.

High-Footed Form

This is a high-footed censer (gao zu xiang qi) — a form with a long history in Chinese incense culture. The tall, flared foot lifts the bowl off the table, giving the piece a sense of elevation and calm. The body is round and generous, with a fitted lid and a pointed finial.
It is a form made for quiet presence: not loud, not decorative, but impossible to ignore.

Jianzhan Glaze, Deep and Warm

The glaze is a dark Jianzhan glaze — deep brown-black, with warm amber and bronze tones breaking over the carved ripples. Where the glaze thins on the raised lines, it glows; where it pools in the recesses, it deepens into near-black.
The interior is glazed as well, smooth and dark, so the ash and heat sit cleanly inside.

Made by Hand

Each censer is thrown, carved, pierced, glazed, and fired by hand. The water ripple carving, the openwork lid, and the subtle variations in glaze tone are all natural results of the process. No two pieces are identical.

Why It Belongs in Your Space

This is not a mass-produced censer. It is a hand-carved, hand-fired piece — a vessel for smoke, a carved wave, and a quiet presence for your tea table, desk, or meditation corner.
Each piece is unique. Once it is sold, it will not find the same cup, only a similar one.
